Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How are trekking expeditions in Nepal , and how should I choose the right destination?
You need not have to be an athlete, trekking in the Himalaya and among the people is itself an athletic experience as trekking or hiking is not mountaineering. Anyone with a pair of strong legs and a spirit of adventure to explore the exotic will enjoy the thrills of trekking.

It is important to remember, however, it requires an adequate level of physical preparation in walking on the mountains. Plus, of course there is the Makalu Adventure's element of choice. You choose whether to trek for 3 days or 35 days, whether to sleep under tented camps or lodges.

What are the ways of organizing trekking Nepal Tibet- Camping or Teahouse?
Our trekking trips include wide range of planning, and organize any type of trek you prefer.; either a camping trek or a tea house (lodge-to-lodge) trek.

On camping trek, we'll have world class camping equipments for staying on tented camps, hot and fresh food will be prepared and served by our professional kitchen crew. While on tea house treks we will stay on the local lodges on the way and have food as available there.

You recommend Camping Trek or Teahouse (Lodge-to-Lodge) Trek?
We recommend on going for camping treks for some reasons. Only on camping arrangement you can enjoy true experience of trekking in the Himalaya. Staying on tented camps overnight, and enjoying foods cooked by the kitchen crew will be different in itself.

Our crew will be carrying all equipments of logistic support, and food will be hygienic and clean of course, much better than one can get on local lodges. In addition to all these, a number of Nepali people (guide, sherpa, cook, helpers and porters) will get employment for a couple of weeks. Hiring people means helping their families as well and more important in context of Nepal, you can realize.

While on teahouse treks, you will stay and take foods as available on local lodges. We need to be very careful with the food in lodges whether or not it is hygienic, and water if it is pure.

Beside all these things, only the lodge owners will mostly and directly benefit from the trekking groups taking away employment of many people. So we ought to stay on camps.

What are necessary equipments?
Trekking in Nepal and mostly on Himalayan region, you will need to be well equipped. List of recommended equipments will be provided on request. You should remember that most of the trekking equipments are available for hiring in Kathmandu (at very good rates). Other equipments of major logistic support such as tents, camping and kitchen utensils will be provided by our side.

How is security at a moment? Are tourists safe in Nepal?
We request you to kindly check the latest security updates.

Hotel accommodation? Which standard you use? Can I choose my own?
We normally use Four / Five star hotels (inclusive of breakfast and tax) while we offer the programs to you. However, you can of course choose your own kind.

If you like us to arrange your accommodation, we offer very best rates on all category hotels ranging from tourist class to five star standards.

Can I obtain Nepal visa upon arrival at Kathmandu airport?
Yes, you can obtain tourist visa upon arrival at Kathmandu Airport. See visa information.

What is the best season for your trips to Nepal and Tibet?
Normally trekking trips in Nepal and Tibet can be organized / enjoyed throughout a whole year. However, Spring (Mar - May) and Autumn (Sep - Nov) are considered as the best seasons.
