Tibet reopens for Tourists from 1st May
[03 April 2008]
The Tibet Travel Bureau (TTB) has announced that they are going to reopen Tibet
for tourists from 1st May, 2008.
The authorities had stopped issuing permits for Tourists
following unrest in Tibet. There were riots in Lhasa and many places inside
Tibet against the Chinese Rule. The situation seems to have calmed down amid
heavy security presence in Lhasa and suburbs.
Though there was no official word, it was expected that Tibet
wouldn't be closed for so long with Olympics looming right ahead.
Security under control says Nepal Police
Nepal Police has said the country's security situation ahead of the elections is
well under control. Senior police officials said that in order to avoid untoward
incidents during the polls police personnel equipped with communication sets and
tools would be mobilised in every polling centre across the country.
Holding a press conference at the Nepal Police headquarters Friday immediately
after returning from a security inspection mission to find out the ground
situation in the district ahead of the election, Inspector General of Police Om
Bikram Rana said deploying army during the polls is not necessary as there
remains no challenge to the country's security situation.
IGP Rana also informed that some 56,000 Nepal Police personnel, 25,000 Armed
Police Force personnel and 54,000 temporary police are going to be deployed to
oversee security during the polls. He also said that a three-pronged security
strategy has been adopted keeping in view the possible breach of security prior
to the election, during and after the election.
